Thousands of protesters have stormed the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal one in Lagos and effectively grounded the flight operations of Nigeria’s largest airline, Arik Air, over billions of debts the airline has been unwilling and unable to pay.
Union members who are government workers at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, said they shut down Arik Air operations due to the inability to pay billions of debts

Thousands of passengers were stranded at many airports across the nation, as the Lagos terminal sat unusually empty with aviation union members singing outside and dancing, vowing that enough was enough.
Clips sent by an eyewitness inside the terminal building painted a picture of desolation and a crisis that was just escalating after many warnings were not acted upon.
