Connor Golden, an 18-year-old man from Fairfax Virginia, was visiting New York City with friends on Sunday, when he lost his left foot after an explosion occurred in Central Park. The New York Daily News reported that the New York Police Department’s bomb squad was at the scene, but that police suspected fireworks had caused the incident, not terrorism. Golden was in New York City as a tourist when the explosion occurred in Central Park, and he was with two friends at the time. His social media account says he is a music engineering student at the University of Miami, who is from Fairfax, Virginia, and who was born in Maryland. He works at a DIY venue and arts space called the Granary. One of Golden’s friends, who was with him when the explosion occurred, said that the explosion caught the group by surprise. He said police had questioned him, but that the group did not have fireworks, and he said that maybe a firework was planted by someone in the park, the Daily News reported. Photos showed the gruesome injury, which a friend said had demolished Golden’s foot, the Daily News said. Police referred to the explosion as an “amputation incident.” On Facebook, photos capture Golden engaging in outdoors activities, such as sailing, and socializing with friends. One of the friends who was in New York had recently posted about the upcoming trip. PennLive reports that Golden and his friends were climbing on rocks in the park when the explosion occurred.
