USA Women’s Gymnastics Olympic Trials Results: Day 1
Unsurprisingly, Simone Biles was the star of Friday night at the USA women’s gymnastics Olympic trials, coming in first in the all-around competition.
The world champion and heavy favorite for gold in Rio wasn’t at her best, but she still topped rising star Laurie Hernandez by a full point, while 2012 gold medalist Gabby Douglas fell to seventh after a big mistake on the balance beam, leaving her Rio hopes a little less secure than when the night started.
The gymnasts will be back Sunday for another round of competition before the five-woman Olympic team is decided. Here’s a full look at the standings after Friday night:
| Position | Gymnast | Vault | Bars | Beam | Floor | Total |
| 1 | Simone Biles | 16.0 | 14.95 | 15.2 | 15.7 | 61.85 |

| 14 | Ashton Locklear | 15.75 | 13.2 | 28.95 |
It’s worth noting that Locklear didn’t compete in the floor or vault, as she is essentially battling Madison Kocian to be the team’s uneven bars specialist. Naturally, the pair tied for the best score of the night in that event:
