It was an atmosphere of fun and excitement as the 2016 Dolphins Youth and Kiddies Basketball Summer Camp ended on Saturday in Lagos.

The event, which was sponsored by the Dolphins Basketball Foundation, began on Thursday with over 45 kids in attendance.

At the camp, which had participants from Ogun and Lagos states, the kids and youths were taught basketball as well as life lessons.

The participants, whose ages were from five years, were taken through basketball drills over three days by more than 15 coaches.

The finale on Saturday was organised in two sessions with participants participating in the monthly sanitation before they resumed for the closing programmes of the event. Participants took part in the morning exercises and drills before they were entertained by a comedian, SACO.

The night of the closing event, which was attended by some parents of the participants, featured an All-Star basketball competition, which had eight players in each team. The teams, Baby Seals (red) and Vision (blue), were chosen from the outstanding players of the camp.

The entertaining match, which was decided by an over-time, saw Vision beat Baby Seals 20-19. The Most Valuable Player award of the competition was won by Oluwakemi Koleosho of the Vision team while Tofunmi Kehinde of Baby Seals emerged as the Best Defensive Player. The two players were presented with a plaque and a pair of playing shoes.

The two players said the camp had impacted their skills.

“Last year when I came to this camp, I was not as good as this but now I am the one who won an award today. This camp has increased my love for basketball and makes it interesting to learn it,” Kehinde said.

One of the parents, Mrs. Abdul Kareem, commended Dolphins for the camp.

“The camp has made the kids grow interest in basketball. My first daughter, who is 11 years, is at this camp and she recently joined her school team. I know that with what she has learnt here in the past three days, she will be able to get a place in her school’s starting five very soon,” she said.

The Proprietor of Dolphins Basketball Club, Wale Aboderin, encouraged the participants to imbibe the lessons they have learnt at the camp after they get home. He also advised them to face their education as it is the key to whatever they do in life.
