(Photo by Gilbert Carrasquillo/Getty Images)I have been in the United States now for more than a month, talking to people, reading the polls, watching television programmes, listening to radio stations and browsing the Internet to understand the US presidential election, and possibly predict its outcome.
Two days to that election, which is a straight fight between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump, I am now in a position to make a clear definitive prediction. And it is that Hillary Clinton has been elected President.
I know people in Africa are reading that this election is so close that Donald Trump the racist who is preaching hate against immigrants and people of other religions is about to cause an upset here and win the presidency. Nothing is far from the truth.
But, let me summarise what’s happening here and explain how Hillary Clinton won this election.
First of all, in the United States, there are 538 electoral-college electors. If you divide that figure by 2, it gives you 269. Therefore, to become President here, you need to have 270 electors voting for you.
The way electors are chosen is not that difficult. As explained by the Huffington Post, here in the United States, when you vote, you don’t elect the president: You tell your state’s electoral-college electors how to vote.
In most states, all electors vote with the state’s popular opinion. If 51 percent of voters in California choose Hillary Clinton, all 55 of California’s electors will vote for Clinton — and none will vote for Donald Trump.
There are states that called swing states because they have the highest number of electoral college electors. For instance, California tops the list with 55 electoral colleges, while Texas follows with 38 electoral colleges. Florida and New York have 29 each while Pennsylvania and Illinois have 20 each. Ohio has 18 while Georgia has 16. North Carolina has 15 and the rest are bit lower. While California is seen as a democrat state, Texas, which used to be Republican is even at play. The family of George Bush refused to endorse Donald Trump. A loss in Texas by Trump may mean the end of his presidential hopes.
Now, back to the election.
I can confirm without any iota of doubt here in the United States that America has its first female President. Based on everything on the ground, Trump has lost this election and by a wide margin. I know you guys are reading that it’s so close now, but the reality is that it is not.
The man triggered outrage among Latinos and African Americans and women and Muslims, and with half whites voting for Clinton, it’s impossible Trump wins this election. In two days, you guys will know.
Mr. Trump lost this election because he was preaching hatred and Hillary won because she was preaching love and togetherness. Love always triumphs over hate.
He said immigrants are rapists and criminals while Muslims are terrorists. He said women are pigs and fat and ugly and boasted that he didn’t pay taxes because he was smart.
The KKK endorsed him and he was happy about it.
When it appeared he was losing, he said election was being rigged. He threatened to throw his opponent in jail and said he would build a great wall to prevent immigrants from coming in.
With all these things, election has been over for months. The rest is just noise. Believe me. This has been closed. On Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, the results would be announced and it would be Hillary Clinton’s day.
