Moves by the Benue state Ministry of Finance to siphon funds meant for payment of workers salaries has been uncovered.
It was reliable gathered that preparation of payment vouchers which was hitherto done digitally at the computer room of the Ministry of Finance has been given out to a contractor, BASMA Nigeria limited.

According to a staff of the Ministry who pleaded anonymity, BASMA Nigeria Limited has resorted to using the manual method to prepare the payment voucher.

“BASMA are filling out names and amounts in hotel rooms in town, we are now redundant in the office”.

She explained that by going back to the manual method it was easy to insert names of ghost workers and ascribe whatever figures to them as salaries.

The staff also said the manual method employed was the reason why some workers experience irregularities of deductions and over payments in their recent salaries.

Recall that Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom last week announced that the state government has received N12.7billion from the Federal Government as debt refunds from the Paris and London clubs, adding that workers will be paid two months salaries before Christmas.
