President-Elect Donald Trump will hold a rally in Mobile, Alabama this afternoon.
The event will take place at the Ladd–Peebles Stadium beginning at 3:00 p.m. Central Time. It can be viewed live in the embedded YouTube player via Right Side Broadcasting.
This rally comes as part of Donald Trump’s USA Thank You Tour 2016, a series of stops in states that Trump won on Election Day. It was initially said that Trump would be focusing on swing states, although Alabama clearly does not fit into that category, as its citizens have not voted for a Democrat in decades. Still, Mobile was where Donald Trump drew one of his biggest crowds in the early days of the campaign, holding an event in August 2015 that was attended by almost 20,000 people.
During these “thank you” rallies, Trump has been reiterating many of the same points he made during the presidential campaign, but in each one, he has devoted at least 10 minutes to making fun of the media and the Democratic party for underestimating him and insisting that he could never become president. During a Friday event in Orlando, Trump said that on the night of the election, the press was “sweating and crying and throwing up all over the place.”
Also at just about every “thank you” rally, Trump has said that Americans should not be able to burn the American flag without consequences, and in recent days he has been appearing in front of several Christmas trees and very pointedly saying “merry Christmas” instead of “happy holidays.”
Expected to speak before Trump today is Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, the president-elect’s choice for attorney general, according to AL.com. Trump has defended each of his cabinet appointments at recent events, and Sessions is a controversial pick due to his past allegations of racist behavior.
