Igbo activists have been protesting across the world demanding that Igbo break up from Nigeria to form an independent state called BIAFRA where they will have justice, equity and fairness. The last protest took place on Friday in Port Harcourt in support of President Donald Trump who was being inaugurated as the 45th American President. At least one person was killed.

Biafra, officially the Republic of Biafra, was a secessionist state in eastern Nigeria that existed from 30 May 1967 to January 1970.

It took its name from the Bight of Biafra, the Atlantic bay to its south. The inhabitants were mostly the Igbo people who led the secession due to economic, ethnic, cultural and religious tensions among the various peoples of Nigeria.

Other ethnic groups that constituted the republic were the Efik, Ibibio, Annang, Ejagham, Eket, Ibeno and the Ijaw among others.

More recently, Nnamdi Kanu, who threatened to completely destroy Nigeria if the Igbo were not given the freedom they want, was arrested and is undergoing a trial for treason.

Some Igbo say they are being discriminated against in Nigeria and want to go.

We would like to hear from you. Are Igbo being treated unfairly in Nigeria? Do the majority of Igbo people want to go? Should they break up? Is there any other way to resolve the crisis beyond break up?
