The Nigerian Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, is not under any pressure to resign and is currently going about his job unperturbed, an ally said on Facebook, calling on Nigerians to dismiss rumours on the Internet saying some people are mounting pressure on him to go.
The rumours said the Vice President was under pressure to go as President Muhammadu Buhari battles for his life in the United Kingdom. But the presidency had clarified last week that President Buhari was fine and was not battling for his life.
The presidency even released a picture of the President watching television in London and drinking tea or coffee.
But on Wednesday, a rumour began to spread on the Internet that some people wanted the Vice President to go.
Reactions were immediate. Babafemi Ojudu, President Buhari’s adviser on political matter, said the rumours were false.
He wrote on Facebook: “I have read many ridiculous stories saying the Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo is being held hostage by some governors who are trying to compel him to resign. I have equally received several calls regarding this. The story is simply not true. It is a fabrication. Don’t be a purveyor of fake news . The Vice President is behind his desk carrying out his task. The Federal Executive Council presided over by him has just ended and he has been busy receiving visitors and holding meetings”.
