President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, who has not seen the Nigerian leader since he left the country a month ago, seems to have grown increasingly exasperated by a raft of questions still flooding into his email account. On Saturday, he offered a brutal and brief answer to TheSimonAtebaNews.
Mr. Buhari who departed on January 19 promising to resume work on February 6 sent a second letter to the National Assembly on February 5 extending his medical leave in Nigeria’s former colonial powers.
In his second letter written from London, Mr. Buhari did not say when he would return. The Nigerian constitution is silent on how long should a leader remain abroad before he is removed from office.
On Saturday, asked in email by TheSimonAtebaNews when would the President return, Mr. Adesina offered a brutal and brief answer to the newspaper.
“I have answered majority of these questions at one time or the other, and my comments are in the public domain. Thanks,” he told TheSimonAtebaNews.
But Mr. Adesina has said many things in the past weeks. He had said the President was not sick and he would soon return. Asked during a BBC interview what the word “soon” meant, Mr. Adesina admitted that he did not have the answer. He did not know exactly when the President would return.
SimonAteba.com had sought to know whether the President would remain in the United Kingdom for months as it was being speculated or his return would be a matter of days. The newspaper had also sought to know the status of the presidential jet that flew Mr. Buhari to London, whether it was still parked there or it was in Nigeria.
Other questions included whether Mr. Adesina had access to the President since he left. The President’s spokesman remained silent on all these questions.
