Boko Haram militants, who invaded a Cameroonian region two days ago in huge numbers, have taken hostage the son of a village’s head and two other persons are missing, a newspaper reported on Friday afternoon.
L’Oeil du Sahel, one of the most reliable newspapers in Cameroon covering the Boko Haram insurgency, said the son of the head of Ndiguina village in Cameroon’s far north around the popular park of Waza has been taken hostage.
For now, two persons are missing, the newspaper added, an indication that the figure could rise.
Boko Haram recently seemed to be increasing attacks in Cameroon and around Lake Chard region after losing some grounds inside the Sambisa forest in Nigeria.
About 2000 people have been killed in Cameroon since 2014 when the attacks intensified while about 150 soldiers and policemen have died.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been rendered homeless in Cameroon and at least a thousand others have been kidnapped.
IN neighbouring Nigeria, about 25, 000 people have been killed and over 2.5 million have been displaced during the eight year insurgency that started in 2009.
