Guardian Bikes entered the Shark Tank in Season 8 with bikes designed with children’s safety in mind. They are made with their patented Sure Stop break system that prevents head-over-handlebar accidents. The Irvine, California-based company launched in 2015 at the Interbike trade show in Las Vegas.

CEO Brian Riley, told Metro US, “A lot of bikes are not actually designed for kids. They’re like miniature adult bikes that are at a cheap cost, and the quality is not good.” The company points out the US Consumer Product Safety Commission report that 1,000 children visit the emergency room each day due to bicycle-related injuries.

The bikes are made for kids ranging from ages six to nine, who are just graduating from training wheels to hand brakes. They are sent 99 percent assembled, with just the handlebars and pedals unattached. Their frames are lightweight, made from aircraft-grade aluminum, so they are 10 pounds lighter than average kids’ bikes.

“Guardian bikes is the only brand on the market today that is truly focused on creating the safest kids bikes, ones that are not only easy to ride and of the highest quality, but also equipped with the most attractive designs created by kids, for kids,” Riley said on the company’s blog.
