Photo: Novo Isioro.After much speculation and many questions about who was really in charge, the Nigerian Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, has finally received the 2017 budget from the National Assembly.
Reports said the budget was on Friday transmitted to Mr. Osinbajo through the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Itah Enang.
After the National Assembly passed the budget last week, speculation began to spread that Mr. Osinbajo did not have the power to sign it even as acting President.
Mr. Osinbajo is acting while President Muhammadu Buhari is battling for life in the United Kingdom, the second time he had travelled there this year as he health continued to worsen.
Fears that Mr. Osinbajo could become more powerful and replace Mr. Buhari seemed to be behind the rumours.
When Mr. Buhari spent 50 days in London between January 19 and March 10, the economy was touted to have greatly improved, and the Economist in a report said Nigeria would be better if Mr. Buhari could remain abroad for a very long time. As Mr. Osinbajo’s profile began to rise, it was learnt that the cabal close to Mr. Buhari became afraid of losing influence.
