Cloud Computing defeated Classic Empire by a nose to win the Preakness. Derby winner Always Dreaming started out in the lead and was virtually even with Classic Empire for half the race.
After Classic Empire had turned on the jets to pass Always Dreaming at the halfway point, Cloud Computing made a late run to win the race by inches. Senior Investment came in third while Lookin at Lee had another solid outing finishing fourth.
It was a disappointing finish for Always Dreaming who appeared to run out of gas at the end of the race. The horse was thought to have one of the top speeds in the entire field. Cloud Computing had six weeks of rest compared to the two weeks Derby horses like Classic Empire and Always Dreaming had.
With hours left before post time, Cloud Computing had 13-1 odds but was able to come away with the upset victory in Baltimore. The Cloud Computing team takes home $900,00. Click here for a full breakdown of the Preakness purse.
According to Horse Racing Nation, Cloud Computing previously ran third at the Wood Memorial and second in the Gotham.

Always Dreaming entered the race as the favorite to find the Winner’s Circle after his impressive Kentucky Derby win. Classic Empire was next in line as the horse looked for redemption after getting banged up at the start of the Kentucky Derby. Lookin at Lee rounded out the favorites after his second place finish at Churchill Downs.
It was a much shallower field with only ten horses compared to 20 horses at the Derby. Aside from the horses who were following up their Derby performance, there were several shooters like Cloud Computing in the field who skipped the Kentucky Derby to prepare for the Preakness.
Trainer Todd Pletcher and jockey John Velazquez both entered the race winless at the Preakness but hoped Always Dreaming could be the horse that changed things. Pletcher has historically opted to skip many Preakness races to prepare for the Kentucky Derby but this year was different given Always Dreaming won the Derby.
