At least 19 people were killed and dozens more more were left injured after an unspecified explosion rocked the Manchester Arena in England during an Ariana Grande concert Monday.
Officials from the United States told CNBC that the incident was “conducted by a suicide bomber” and that there were “possibly two explosions.” No further information in regard to the explosions was immediately available.
Armed police lined the streets near the arena and members of the public were ushered away from the scene as authorities arrived at the scene in large numbers.
One witness, Catherine Macfrlane, attended the concert and told Reuters that she was leaving the arena when suddenly a loud blast was heard.
“We were making our way out and when we were right by the door there was a massive explosion and everybody was screaming,” she said the the news outlet. “It was a huge explosion — you could feel it in your chest. It was chaotic. Everybody was running and screaming and just trying to get out of the area.”
Some reports say that some of the casualties and injuries may have been caused by a stampede when the explosion was felt and heard.
