About 295 military personnel have been released into the society
to continue their normal life after acquiring entrepreneurial skill
at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi,
Lagos.

They have been disengaged from service in the armed forces
comprising Army 270, Navy 18 and Airforce 7, given a total number
of 295. They were presented with certificates for having completed
course 01/2017at NAFRC.

The Minister for Defence, Muhammed Mansur Dan-Ali, charged the
military personnel on security challenge posing threat to the peace
of the country ,as he simply put it: “You are all aware of the
security challenges confronting our country, particularly the
insurgency in the North east, cattle rustling. farmers/herdsmen
clashes, kidnappings, illegal oil bunkering/pipeline vandalism,
socio-ethnic crisis and other criminal activities across the
country.

“Be reminded that as retired personnel of the Armed forces of
Nigeria, much is still expected of you in contributing your quota
towards surmounting any threat to lives and properties within your
area of domicile or business concern.”

Dan-Ali, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the
Ministry of Defence, Ambassador Danjuma Sheni, said that, “this
will go a long way in addressing, curtailing and annihilating these
vices and help in having a safe and secured environment for
meaningful socio-economic development as well as peaceful
co-habitation and existence.”

On the part of the government, he said, “President Muhammadu
Buhari is committed to ensuring that service personnel are properly
resettled after dedicated service to the fatherland.
“The Federal Government is not relenting in its effort to improve
the welfare of service personnel. It has vigorously stemmed the
tide of corruption. While pursuing due process towards ensuring
transparency, accountability and rule of law, in order to stimulate
durable, socio-economic development for improved living standards
of the society at large.”

On the training, he said, “it is believed that your training
here has exposed you to several skill acquisitions,
entrepreneurship and general management expertise.”
He added: “Once you join a service, you know you will retire one
day. The armed forces and the ministry is particularly concerned
about what will happen to our service men after they leave the
service, particularly, when they have put so much for the country.
That is why this centre was put in place.”

He explained that they have the vision to make NAFRC a higher
institution for the award of Diploma and degree. “There is that
vision that we want this place to be enhanced to enable the
trainees and those who come here to graduate with a kind of
enhanced Diploma or University degree.”

The Commandant of NAFRC, Air Vice-Marshal Augustine Jekenu, said
that, “bear in mind as retiring members of the armed forces, the
society that you are going back to expect so much from you. It is
therefore important that you uphold the professional ethics you
have imbibed over the years and remain obedient to the constituted
authority.”

Ajibola said that they have concluded plans in replicating the
Centre in different zones of the country. “We have concluded
arrangement in having three of such programmes in different zones
of the country. We have selected Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos,
which we intend to conclude before the end of the year.”

The trainees showcased some of their products at the General
Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin’s Exhibition Arena and these include;
poultry , soap making, school chair and desk, pepper grinding,

120 students, the NAFRC gate, Agric Wing, renovated senior
non-commission officers quarters amongst others.
