NBA Commiserated With The Family Of Alhaji Suleman Maitama

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) commiserate with family of
late elder statesman , bridge builder, nationalist and a man of
impeccable attributes,Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule.

GOOD NIGHT, DAN MASANIN KANO !!!!

It is with enormous grief and deep sense of loss that the
Nigerian Bar Association, NBA received the shocking news of the
demise of Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, Dan masanin Kano who died in
Cairo, Egypt on 3rd of July, 2017.

Alhaji Maitama Sule was a national leader and an elder Statesman
of many parts. He was not only a bridge builder who preached
peaceful co-existence and religious ecumenism among Nigerians, but
an international Diplomat of high repute, and a distinguished
public servant, who served the Federal Government of Nigeria as a
Minister on three occasions, He was also a man of impeccable and
unflinching integrity. It was in recognition of his high level of
integrity that he was appointed a Minister of National Guidance in
1983, a portfolio created to assist the then President in tackling
Corruption.

At all times of national strife in Nigeria, when centripetal
forces were singing discordant tunes of disunity to the point of
disintegration, Maitama Sule`s unifying golden voice of moderation,
sage advice and words of wisdom were soothing balms.

The NBA recalled that following the election of our President,
Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, OON, SAN, he was honoured, by the Kano
State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, with a state dinner on
the 21st of January, 2017 at the Government house Kano. Alhaji
Maitama Sule, who delivered the dinner speech was as usual at his
oratorical best. The late Sage used the opportunity to laud the NBA
as the foremost professional association in Nigeria and charged it
to be at the vanguard of the war against corruption especially in
the judicial arms of Government.

He would be remembered as a bridge builder and advocate of
peaceful co-existence; one who worked tirelessly and relentlessly
for Nigeria’s unity and development.

The NBA believes that his monument of achievements, iconoclastic
attainments, and avalanche of testimonials of valuable
contributions have been etched in the sands of time. We have no
doubt that when historians chronicle the history and heroes of our
great country Nigeria, his name will be written in gold.

NBA celebrates the life of Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule and would
urge his family, friends, the good people and Government of Kano
State and Nigeria not to grieve over his demise. He was by all
standards an achiever and a global Citizen. We make bold to say
that he was urbane, suave, a man of style and without any
guile.

Our condolences, thoughts and prayers go to his family, friends,
the good people and Government of Kano State and the Federal
Republic of Nigeria, as we ask ALLAH to grant him Al-jananah
firdaus.
