Bauchi state government has been urged to pay over N244 million
to six retired judges in the state.

Four of judges had already died while two are alive.

The request was contained in a letter addressed to governor
Mohammed Abubakar through the Secretary to the State
Government.

According to the letter signed by Barrister Isah Mohammed on
behalf of the retired and deceased judges stated that they were
engaged as Solicitors for the retired judicial officers.

“We are engaged as Solicitors to the underlisted retired
Judicial Officers and the estate claimants of Bauchi State
Judiciary (Herein reffered to as “Our Clients”), on whose
instructions‎ and directive we write you.

“Your Excellency‎ may wish to be informed that some of the
deceased judicial officers had been paid part of their‎ gratuity,
more particularly, Late Hon. Justice Sabo Suleiman Darazo, Late
Hon. Justice Bala Umar and Late Khadi Ibrahim Mohammed Liman and
after the review of their entitlements by the Pension Board the
balaance is yet to be paid them,”the letter stated.

“It is imperative to note that the judicial officers demand is
in tandem with the extant laws as per the ‘Certain Political,
Public and Judicial Holders (Salaries and Aallowances, etc)
(Amendment Act No 1 of 2008, which took effect from 1st January,
2007 and the schedule Of Service, applicable to Judicial Officers
of State Judiciaries.”

The six retired and deceased Judicial Officers are; Former
Bauchi State Chief Judge,Late Justice Sabo Suleiman Darazo‎, Late
Justice Bala Umar, Khadi Hamidu Gambo Bununu, Late Khadi Ibrahim
Mohammed Liman, Late Khadi Aminu Halliru Usman and Khadi Mohammed
Shuaibu.
