The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress in Kogi State
has assumed a new dimension as the governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello,
on Saturday, announced the constitution of a new executive council
to pilot the affairs of the party in the state.
This followed the purported dissolution of the state exco on
Thursday by the North-Central zonal exco, which indicted the Hady
Ametuo-led exco for anti-party activities levelled against the exco
by the Kogi State governor.
However, in a reaction by the national secretariat of the party
on Friday, the APC spokesman, Bolaji Abdulahi, said the National
Working Committee had nothing to do with the dissolution as no
recommendation had been received from the committee earlier set up
to look into the crisis in the state.
“Our attention has been drawn to a story on national television
that the State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress
in Kogi State has been suspended.
“We want to state that this action does not emanate from the
National Working Committee of the party or any of its organs
empowered to do so,” the APC spokesman said.
According to him, although there are issues within the party in
Kogi State and the NWC had empowered a committee to investigate the
issues and make recommendations. The NWC had not been appropriately
briefed on the outcome of the committee’s work and therefore had
not taken any decision.
But in a statement on Saturday announcing the constitution of a
new state exco, the Director-General on Media and Publicity to the
Governor, Kingsley Fanwo, listed the names of those to replace the
sacked exco as Ahovi Salam Ibrahim (acting Chairman), Abdulrahman
Ibrahim (acting Deputy Chairman), Mr. Bola Ward (acting Treasurer),
and Billy Onumoko (acting Assistant Treasurer), among others.
