A human rights lawyer, Ahmed Abbas, has sought for the speedy
passage of the not-too-young-to-run bill currently before the
National Assembly.
He said this while delivering a lecture on “Universities
Education of 21st Century: The Prospects, The Challenges”, at the
National University Summit of the National Association of
University Students in Abeokuta, on Wednesday.
He argued that by so doing, young, dynamic and vibrant youths
would be encouraged to join politics as contribute meaningfully to
the development of the country.
The lawyer added that the country needs good innovative ideas
from the younger generation, admitting that the present crop of
leaders cannot take Nigeria to her promise land.
He blamed the current woes bedevilling the country on the poor
vision of successive leadership.
According to him, ‘Nigerian politicians have turned potential
students and youths to use and dump after making sacrifices for
them.
“It takes a qualitative leader to know the right thing. Our
leaders don’t know the science to solve Nigeria’s problem. What
this nation needs is just one voice.
“I am calling on billionaires to look for intelligent young men
who have passion, creative, intelligent, smart and resourceful to
run for leadership positions.
“We can’t achieve the desired country of our dream until
qualitative leadership is put in place, which is the engine room of
any nation.
He also sought the empowerment of youths so as to save the
citizens from witnessing abject poverty in the nearest future.
