National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) has resolved that all
intending Muslim pilgrims must get their National Identity Number
(NIN) as part of their clearance for the 2018 pilgrimage.

NAHCON is partnering with the National Identity Management
Commission (NIMC) to achieve this.

This was contained in a release detailing the partnership drive
between NAHCON and NIMC during the visit by Abdullahi Muhammad,
chief executive officer of NAHCON, to Aliyu Aziz, the
director-general of NIMC.

The NAHCON CEO stated: “The National Hajj Commission will ensure
that every intending pilgrim secures NIMC number before embarking
on 2018 Hajj.”

He assured that in order to guarantee high ethical standards and
secrecy, only NAHCON staff whose integrity could be vouched for
would be deployed for the exercise.

Though pilgrims’ data capture is a part of NAHCON’s
responsibility, it believes that the agency, with the statutory
mandate for registering citizens, should be allowed to carry out
its functions, thereby avoiding duplication of effort and
unnecessary waste of resources.

To make the exercise comprehensive, the commission plans to
carry along the states’ pilgrims’ welfare boards and tour
operators.

Aziz thanked the NAHCON management “for registering all
Nigerians, describing NAHCON as top among the Federal Government
organisations that shared the registration body’s core values.”

He appealed to other agencies to follow suit.
