* As Group Places Branch Under Lock And
Key
The Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA) Aba branch seems to be
experiencing some form of chaos after a chairmanship candidate of
the branch was alleged to have directed some of his supporters to
make the branch inaccessible.
The direction was alleged to have been given as a sharp reaction
to the notice signed by the chairman of the caretaker committee of
the branch, disqualifying some members of the branch from
contesting its forthcoming election.
Reports reveal that there is an allegation of lack of
transparency, hanging on the neck of the caretaker committee making
two factions at branch to be at loggerhead with the branch,
concerning the notice of disqualification.
Rumour as well carries it that the disqualification of the
candidates is not unconnected to their failure to pay their
practicing fees and dues. The act of putting the branch under lock
and key has inevitably haulted the election of the branch as voters
were not able to cast their votes.
TheNigerialawyer recalls that the NBA Aba Branch had earlier
disqualified the likes of Uchenna Umenne, Ojukwu
Ndubuisi S, Udensi Hippolitus Uzoma, Ifeakor Sylvester Chika and
Lady Augusta Chibuka Eleri from contesting the
forthcoming election.
The disqualification according to the Press release was the
failure of the contestants to attend five meetings within twelve
months period prior to June, 2017.
