Twenty (20) University of Lagos 2017 Law graduates have bagged
First Class Honours at the August, 2018 Bar Final Exams at the
Nigerian Law School.
They are Gboremi Ogundipe, Hannah Ozieme, Bunmi Ayo-Ogunmuko,
Adeola Adefuye, Rahman Apalara, Tobenna Igweonu, Oyindamola Hilary
Aje, Kehinde Takuro, Zainab Adejoke, Vivian Okonkwo, Korede Alade,
Imade Iyamu and Gabriel Emeasoba.
Others are Mistura Ayodeji Otubu, Chioma Onwuzulike, Tamilore
Akintunde-Johnson, Halima Bolu Onigbinde, Ayomide Oladunjoye, Tomi
Oyewusi, and Nwodigwe Ifunanya.
Accordingly, the University of Lagos is said to have produced in
the 2018 edition of the Bar Finals the highest number of first
class honours followed by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
It would be recalled that the Nigerian Law School had recently
announced that 161 students who sat for the 2018 bar final exams
bagged first class, making it by far the highest ever in the
history of legal education in the country.
While 695 candidates bagged second class upper division, 1,276
passed with second class lower division, and a total number of 2,
501 were also graded with Pass.
According to a statement by the Council of Legal Education,
signed by Prof. Isa Hayatou Chiroma (SAN), the Director General,
Nigerian Law School, 5,846 students took the examination. And of
the 5,846 candidates, 4,633 passed the exams, representing 79.25
per cent of the total students.
In the 2017 bar final exams, in contrast, only 29 students
bagged first class, which at the time set a record as the highest
ever.
It would be recalled that at the 2017 Bar Examinations, the
University of Lagos also produced the highest number of first
class.
While six UNILAG law graduates emerged with first class, four
emerged from UNN and three from OAU.
According to the Council of Legal Education, Nigerian Law
School, of all the universities in the country, only UNILAG’s Law
Faculty has its full accreditation to run the Law programme.
The Call to Bar ceremony is set to hold on November 27, 28, and
29 in Abuja.
