A Federal High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State has
convicted and sentenced one Ajayi Ogbemudia to one-year
imprisonment for forgery and provision of false information.
According to a statement from the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC), Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi sentenced
Ogbemudia on Tuesday with an option of a fine of N300,000.
The anti-graft agency had arraigned the convict in July 2017 on
seven counts bordering on forgery and provision of false
information.
At the point of arraignment, Ogbemudia pleaded guilty to the
charges of forgery and provision of false information, pressed
against him.
Justice Demi-Ajayi convicted and sentenced him to one-year
imprisonment accordingly.
The EFCC said Ogbemudia’s trouble started on February 6, 2017,
when he stood as a surety for one Michael Ogbonavbare, a suspect
being investigated by the commission.
Investigations later showed that Ogbemudia presented a document
which upon verification by the EFCC was discovered to have been
forged.
