Amaka Obi now has a new name attached to her first name. They
say: that is how the Society has programmed the software of
identity. It changes when a woman’s father receives with both
hands, some new yams.
During that period, at least, few days to the day the Shepherd
makes the twain to be one, they usually appear in fine regalia so
that their images can be placed on the walls of their house,
serving as remembrance of that day itself. Not only so, others also
do that after the day.
Amaka wanted to see something she could remember; not just
anything, but something she could remember very well. So, she
appeared robed before the photo-man, daring any mouth that chose to
play the role of a busy body. To her, it was stylish — she looked
like a superstar, especially as she took the shot as a pregnant
damsel.
She exposed her big stomach, dressed in the Wig and Gown. The
man who has given her his own name stood by her side, feeling the
display of his lawyer-half who was taking the best shot of her
life.
This wonderful celebration would have ended in the other room,
and known only by the rats that paid the room a visit if only the
E-Copy had been stored in a drive, card or flash. But Amara in her
usual manner who gave no damn about other wigs (Whether learned or
Cotton) may say, chose to visit the cyberspace and press the
upload-button.

”The Regalia of a lawyer is very important in the legal
profession. Where a lawyer fails to be robed, he will not be
granted audience before any Superior Court of record. Just like the
sacred mercy seat in the Holy of Holies which the High Priest is
not permitted to see, save once in a year when he is to make
sacrifice for himself and others, a lawyer is not expected to be
robed outside the Court on a General Rule. This is the spirit of
Rule 45 of the Rules of Professional Conduct,” Mr. Mark Mouse
canvassed before Michael Mike as he downloaded the photos from
Amaka’s timeline.
”You are right Michael, but what if she got the permission of
the Bar Council?,” Mike asked.
”The Bar Council cannot do that. The Council is too busy with
other issues. A Pre or Post Wedding Shot cannot make the least
agenda of the great Council,” Michael Insisted
They had a long time arguing over the matter. Throwing points to
both sides, it was argued that Amaka may be guilty of impersonation
if she wasn’t a legal practitioner, but unethical if she is one. It
all evolves around one word, ”MAY”. She may be wrong, she may not
be; there may be an exception — there is none.
But to Mike, issues like this have a way of dying a natural
death. So why talk about it? If it is something that is so
important to get some attention, the Bar will start with a press
release, he thought.
