The Speaker House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has decried
low turn-out of voters in Saturday’s Gubernatorial and State
Assembly elections in Bauchi state.
Mr Dogara, who spoke to newsmen shortly after casting his vote
at his Gwaranga Polling Unit in Bogoro local government area of the
state, attributed the low turnout to the outcome of the last
Presidential elections which he claimed were rigged.
According to him, during the last presidential and national
assembly elections, some of the results were tempered with at the
collation centres at local government levels.
The Speaker, therefore, called on the Independent National
Electoral Commission, INEC, to be fair and respect the wishes of
the electorates.
He commended the people of his constituencies by being peaceful
during the process of the election and urged them to remain law
abiding.
