Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has signed into law,
the Kogi State Primary Health Care amendment bill aimed at
revolutionising primary care delivery services in the state.
The governor also assented to the Kogi State Health Insurance
scheme and six other bills passed by the state assembly.
In his remarks, the governor said that the signing of the health
bills and the other bills was another milestone in the history of
Kogi State, describing it as unprecedented.
Also speaking the Executive Director, Kogi State Primary Health
Care Development Agency, Dr Abubakar Yakubu, described the signing
as a new dawn for primary health care services in the state.
He said the new law was set to revolutionize not just the
Primary Health Care sub-sector but entire health sector in the
state because of its multiplier effect on other areas of the Health
Sector.
“One of the major challenges facing the Primary Health Care
sub-sector before the signing of the bill is lack of proper
coordination in the management of human and material
resources.’’
“The new law brings all PHC activities under one umbrella for
efficient management,’’ he said.
According to him, the new law will improve the state’s ranking
with National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and
ensure smooth working relationship with the national body and
partners.
