The Nigerian Bar Association Oron branch, Akwa Ibom State, has
resolved that there will be a total boycott of the High Court Okobo
Division presided over by Hon. Justice T. Udobong from the 29th of
April, 2019.
This was contained in a letter written to the Chief Justice of
Akwa Ibom, dated the 29th day of April, 2019, and made available
toTheNigerialawyer(TNL).
The NBA branch had made the resolution in a meeting held on the
26th day of April, 2019, based on alleged allegations of
aggression, indiscretion and abuse of power by His Lordship.
Lawyers in the branch noted that Hon. Justice T. Udobong has
been known for abuse of lawyers before litigants, unilateral fixing
of dates against lawyer’s choice; combative nature of adjudication;
cancelling of bails and refusal to grant bails; unilateral striking
out of cases; condemning lawyer to park their vehicles in a muddy
bush; refusing to respect seniority of lawyers in court; hostile
attitudes towards lawyers; and intimidation of witnesses in
court.
The branch as a result of the above-mentioned alleged acts of
His Lordship urged the Chief Justice to redeploy Hon. Justice T.
Udobong and assign another Judge to the said Division.
The branch also resolved that until the redeployment is
effected, lawyers will not appear before His Lordship.
