VIRGINIA: An employee aggrieved by unknown reason has opened
fire on his colleagues at a municipal building complex in Virginia
on Friday, killing at least 12 people and injuring more than half a
dozen. Immediately, he was fatally shot by police.
This is the deadliest incident of US gunfire since November 2018
in which same dozen people were killed at Los Angeles area bar and
grill by a gunman who then killed himself.
Virginia Beach Police Chief James Cervera said that the suspect
in Friday’s horrifying incident was armed with a point 45-caliber
pistol equipped with a sound suppressor device and extended
ammunition magazines he used to reload repeatedly during the
attack.
The first victim was shot in a vehicle outside the public works
and utilities building at the city Municipal Center before the
suspect entered that building and immediately and indiscriminately
fired upon all the victims.
Police took a long time to prevent the man from shooting more
employees in the building.
“One officer was wounded in the shootout, but his bullet-proof
vest saved his life”-the police chief said.
