A coalition of 91 political parties under the aegis of
Inter-Party Advisory Council has recommended solutions to the
problems confronting the country’s electoral process.
In its letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission,
organisation the group said it “deliberated extensively on the
various issues, proposals and recommendations that have a direct
bearing on political parties and the conduct of free, fair and
transparent elections”.
The 13-page document was signed by the Chairman of IPAC and
National Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, Chief Peter
Ameh.
The group sought the abolition of State Independent Electoral
Commission and the incorporation of its structures “within the
structures of INEC to form a single election management body for
the country”.
It added, “The state secretariat of INEC should therefore
consist of 37 Directors of Elections, one for each state and the
FCT. These Directors should be carter officers, and non-partisan
persons of unquestionable character and proven integrity.”
