Criminals Fleeing Kwara- NOA

The Kwara State director of National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mr
Segun Adeyemi on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 commended the Acting
Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for
establishing the Ilorin Zonal Office of the Commission.

Adeyemi stated this when the management of NOA, Kwara State
Chapter visited the Ilorin Zonal Office of the Commission.

According to Adeyemi, “The fear of EFCC in Ilorin is now the
beginning of wisdom in Kwara State, criminals fled from this state
because the EFCC is on ground. Since you came, we have been
following all your activities in the media. Your achievements send
signals to criminals. Your efforts in fighting corruption are
highly commendable. We hope you will continue in this
direction.”

The state director of NOA, however, promised to partner with the
anti-graft body in its fight against corruption. “We cannot go far
unless we partner with an agency like the EFCC. We are interested
in good governance. Corruption must not be given a chance,” he
said.

Responding, the Ilorin Zonal Head of the EFCC, Isyaku Sharu
commended the delegation for the visit and promised to engage NOA
in raising awareness in order to prevent crime within the zone.

“We are very much aware of your responsibilities. Section 6 of
the EFCC Act says we must collaborate with both government and
non-governmental agencies. Beyond conviction, we must change the
people for good. This country belongs to all of us. We have to do
all things so that crime will be reduced to bearest minimum,” Sharu
said.

EFCC Nabs Fake Native Doctor In Ibadan

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal
office, on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, arrested a fake native doctor,
Fatai Olalere Aliu, who was alleged to be notorious for duping
people under the guise of possessing spiritual power to their
problems.

Aliu was arrested by the operatives of the Commission during a
raid on his abode at Kisumu Estate at Odo-Ona Elewe of Ibadan, the
Oyo State capital.

Before his eventual arrest, the Commission had worked on several
intelligence reports linking him to series of fraud allegation
involving large sums of money.

He was also accused of engaging in money doubling through which
he would collect money from his victims with the promise of using
his spiritual powers to multiply the sums for them, but would
instead divert same to his personal use.

The raid led EFCC operatives to his shrines located in a thick
forest around the Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Expressway and Kobomoje area of
the town where frightening voodoo items were sighted.

Items recovered from the suspect include three exotic cars – two
Toyota Corolla and Honda Pilot.

He also has in his possession three luxurious buildings within
Ibadan and land documents which were also recovered as
exhibits.

The suspect is under further interrogation.

EFCC Docks Civil Engineer for Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ilorin Zonal
Office on July 9, 2019 arraigned a Civil Engineer, Hammed Lanre
before a Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin on a two-count
charge bordering on fraud.

Lanre was brought before Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar.

Count one against him reads: “That you, Hammed Folorunsho Lanre,
on the 29th of May 2019, in Ilorin, within the jurisdiction of this
honourable court, committed theft by dishonestly taking money from
Hammed Muritala when you transferred the sum of N540,000 (Five
Hundred and Forty Thousand Naira) only in 10,000 tranches 54 times
via his mobile phone from his Stanbic IBTC account into your Bet9ja
pay stack website account without his consent and thereby committed
an offence contrary to Section 286 of the Penal Code Law and
punishable under Section 287 of the same law.”

He pleaded “not guilty” when the charges were read to him.

Counsel for the EFCC, Andrew Akoja, thereafter urged the court
to fix a date for commencement of trial.

Defence counsel, R.O. Salman, however, told the court that his
client intended to enter a plea bargain with the commission.

The case has been adjourned to July 16, 2019 for “hearing”.
