The Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service, Alhaji
Muhammadu Babandede, on Tuesday in Kano said the e-migrants
registration was aimed at capturing the identities of migrants in
the country and those coming into the country.

He gave the explanation during a visit to the Kano State
Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, to brief him on the scheme.

Babandede, who was represented by the Assistant Comptroller
General, Passport and other Travel Documents, Mrs Tamprikha
Oyedeji, said his administration adopted measures to ensure the
success of the e-migrants registration exercise.

In his remarks, the Kano State Comptroller of the Service, Nuhu
Yashe, said the registration was “a mechanism for capturing
migrants’ comprehensive inventory, so as to safeguard the nation’s
security, which is paramount, as far as the operations of the
Nigerian Immigration Service are concerned.’’

Responding, Ganduje assured the NIS boss of his administration’s
readiness to support security agencies in the state toward halting
illegal entry into the country.

Earlier at the launch of the e-migrants registration at the
state headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Kano on
Monday, Ganduje stated that there was no better time to support the
laudable crusade than now, considering the need for security
agencies to nip every form of crime in the bud.

He said no nation would fold its arms and allow illegal
immigrants to gain unhindered access into the country, hence the
need to support the NIS for effective surveillance of the country’s
borders.
