UNDP, Nigerian Army Discuss Stabilisation Facility in
North-East
The representatives of the United Nations Development Programme
(UNDP) in Nigeria have visited the Nigerian Army Headquarters on
its stabilisation facility in the North-East which requires
adequate protection.
The facilities are deployed in curtailing the ability of Boko
Haram insurgency by restoring and extending effective civilian
security in the region.
This was made known on Tuesday by the UNDP Resident
Representative in Nigeria, Mr Mohammed Yahyah during his courtesy
visit to the Chief of Army Staff in Abuja.
Mohammed said a colloboration with the Nigerian military had
witnessed robust progress in livelihoods and improve the delivery
of basic services in Nigeria, most especially in some states
ravaged by insurgency.
He, therefore, expressed their continued strong commitment to
leading necessary stabilization efforts in the region, including
through the Facility.
While responding, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General
Tukur Yusuf Buratai reiterated the Nigerian Army commitment to
stabilisation in the North East through strategic and operation
plans, adding that the army will continue to provide support for
all UN humanitarian agencies.
Buratai, however, urged UNDP to consolidate on the successes
achieved so far by not relenting on its oars until final stability
returns to the region.
He said: “Although insurgency is not peculiar to Nigeria but a
global phenomenon. Integrating UN system to the development of NE
through humanitarian services are commendable.
“Be rest assured of the needed support, as those who had
deserted their homes (in fear of insurgency) would be returned,”
Buratai assured.
