The Liverpool and Egypt forward remains in self-isolation but
could be cleared as soon as Thursday.
After testing positive for COVID-19 late last week, Mohamed Salah entered into self-isolation in
the Egyptian Red Sea resort town of El Gouna. There is, however,
some good news: the player continues not to show symptoms of the
virus.
This according to the head of Egypt’s COVID-19 committee, who
offered an update on the player’s status, including that he’s set
for another round of tests on Thursday—and if he still hasn’t shown
symptoms by then, it’s possible that test could come back
negative.
“Salah is currently in El Gouna to complete his quarantine,”
said Hossam Hosny. “He will c onduct another PCR test on
Thursday, and I expect that his result will be negative because
until now, the player hasn’t shown any symptoms.

“Liverpool are communicating with us to check on Salah,
and their medical staff have agreed that he will travel to El
Gouna, and Salah can return to England if his test result on
Thursday is negative, but it’s better to conduct two tests before
traveling.”
Given the timeline, Thursday would mark around ten days since
Salah contracted the virus, and returning a negative test at that
point is extremely optimistic, though it wouldn’t be impossible if
the player has been entirely asymptomatic.
If he were to return a negative test on Thursday, it’s even
possible Salah would be available to face Leicester City
on Sunday, though even having shown no symptoms a two-week absence
and return in time for Atalanta next week might be more likely.
