Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board
(JAMB), Prof. Is–haq Oloyede, has accused some officials of his
board and tertiary institutions for mobilising fake graduates for
the mandatory national service.

He said most of the illegal mobilisation for the National Youth
Service Corps (NYSC) was done in collaboration with the Student
Affairs or the Registries of various institutions across the
country.

Oloyede spoke Tuesday at the 2021 Batch ‘A’ pre-mobilisation
workshop organised by the NYSC in Nasarawa State.

The NYSC had repeatedly turned down the mobilisation of
graduates with fake certificates by some institutions.

It was learnt that 95 of such persons with fictitious
credentials are awaiting trial.

Officials of the NYSC arrested the suspects in orientation camps
across the country during the Batch ‘B’ Streams I and II services
last August.

A statement by the NYSC said the suspects have been handed to
security agencies for prosecution.

Oloyede said: “Institutions of learning are veritable tools of
corrupting for the NYSC mobilisation. One in every eight culprits
will be traceable to institutions of learning. I can say it
anywhere because you know that I am not an enemy of the
institutions and I know what I am talking about. So, I couldn’t
have painted the institutions to say they are the culprit.

“The truth is that we are, more often than not, culpable. Most
of the illegitimate mobilisation could not have been done without
active collaboration of the Student Affairs or the Registries of
our various institutions.

“Of course, JAMB also plays a role in it. I work for JAMB; I
don’t have any reason to hate the organisation. But the truth is
that I know at least a few; no matter how few they are that are our
workers who are also part of the ring.”

NYSC’s Director General, Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, promised
that the management of the scheme would continue to enhance the
credibility of the mobilisation process.

“Management is, more than ever before, committed to tackling
issues that tend to have adverse effects on the mobilisation.

“I wish to reaffirm the commitment of management to enhancing
the credibility of the mobilisation process. We will continue to
apply fool–proof measures to ensure that only qualified graduates
are enlisted for national service.

“Let me, therefore, restate our warning that unqualified persons
attempting to present themselves for mobilisation will be
apprehended and handed over to law agencies for prosecution,”
Ibrahim said.
