The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) ) has announced the constitution of state teams in a bid to decentralize its activities and increase grassroots participation.
According to a notice issued by the SPIDEL Chairman, the state teams were created in line with a resolution at the section’s Extraordinary General Meeting on August 30th, 2023.
The officers compiled lists of SPIDEL members based on their respective states and appointed interim leaders and secretaries to head each state team.
The teams have a three-fold terms of reference: to drive membership, promote and carry out SPIDEL activities in their states with clearance from national leadership, and fulfill section responsibilities at the state level.
The notice highlighted that some members were inadvertently omitted from their state teams due to insufficient details. affected members were urged to reach out to their respective team leaders for inclusion.
Additionally, a number of states lacked enough SPIDEL members to constitute teams. The system however remains all-inclusive, with every national member expected to operate either at the state or national level.
The SPIDEL Chairman noted that the decentralization aims to involve more members and bring section activities closer to lawyers across various states.
Members were also reminded to pay up their annual dues to support the section’s programs. List of states and appointed interim leaders were attached to the notice.
