The legal fraternity in Anambra State is reeling in shock after the reported kidnapping of Chukwubuikem J S Azoro, a well-known lawyer and Principal Partner at Clay & Amicus Solicitors.
The disturbing incident occurred on Saturday evening around 8:30 pm in Oye Agu Abagana, merely days after Azoro’s wedding to fellow lawyer Mrs. Queen Agulefo, now Mrs. Azoro.
The newlywed couple had celebrated their nuptials just a week prior in Abagana before Mr. Azoro’s abduction sent shockwaves through the state’s legal circles. Azoro also serves as the Secretary of the Idemili Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Anambra.
The kidnapping has sparked grave concerns over the spate of such crimes targeting legal professionals and other prominent individuals across Nigeria by criminal gangs seeking ransom payments. The timing of the incident, coming so shortly after Azoro’s joyous marriage, has further amplified the outrage.
While authorities have yet to divulge details on the circumstances surrounding the abduction or any ransom demands, the NBA and stakeholders are expected to vehemently condemn the act and demand Azoro’s immediate and safe release.
