The Nigerian Bar Association, Ado-Ekiti Branch, held its first-ever Sports Festival on September 21, 2024, at the Aare Afe Babalola Bar Centre.
The event, themed “The Sporty Lawyers,” saw members of the legal profession in Ado-Ekiti participate in various sporting activities, including jogging, aerobics, snooker, ludo, scrabble, chess, draft, ayo-olopon, skipping, weightlifting, and various card games.
Dr. Taiwo Omidoyin, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ado-Ekiti Branch, emphasized the importance of the Sports Festival, stating that it was initiated to encourage lawyers to prioritize their physical and mental well-being by engaging in recreational activities. Dr. Omidoyin further stressed the significance of lawyers maintaining physical and mental fitness in preparation for the commencement of the new Legal Year of the State High Court on September 23, 2024.
Expressing gratitude to the participating lawyers, Mr. Adekunle Bayo-Fati, Chairman of the Sports Committee, urged members to regularly allocate time from their hectic schedules for physical exercise and sports.
Emmanuella Akinyemi, the Social Secretary of the Association, reassured members that the Sports Festival would become a regular event of the Branch, with the aim of incorporating it into the Association’s statutory activities.
The inaugural Sports Festival not only provided an opportunity for lawyers to showcase their athletic prowess but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and work-life balance within the legal community of Ado-Ekiti. The event’s success sets the stage for future editions, promoting a culture of wellness and recreational engagement among legal professionals in the region.
