Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the recently concluded Edo State governorship election, has released a heartfelt message to the people of Edo State, expressing gratitude for their support and unwavering commitment to a better future for the state.
In his message, Ighodalo also addressed the alleged “theft of mandate” that took place during the election on September 21st, 2024.
Ighodalo began by giving thanks to God for the gift of life, health, and the love shown to him by the people of Edo State. He extended his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who stood by him throughout the campaign, particularly those who defied the rains, intimidation, threats of violence, harassment, arrests, and financial inducements to cast their votes for the PDP.
The PDP candidate emphasized that his aspiration was not borne out of a love for power but a genuine desire to serve the people and create a “Pathway to Prosperity for All” in Edo State. He thanked his supporters for believing in this vision and for their countless hours of dedication to the cause.
Ighodalo, however, lamented that the progress made by the PDP was “unjustly halted” on September 21st, 2024, by people who do not mean well for the state or its people. He described the day as one of the darkest moments in Edo State’s history, marked by the “brazen theft of our mandate” and the “shameful subversion of the will of the people.”
Despite this setback, Ighodalo urged his supporters not to be discouraged, stating that the “illusory triumph of evil over good is only temporary.” He emphasized that the journey towards a prosperous Edo State does not end with the election but is just beginning. He called on his supporters to remain engaged, committed, and united in their collective resolve to create a better future for the state.

Ighodalo concluded his message by assuring his supporters that just as they did not abandon him during the campaign, he will not abandon them as they face a daunting and uncertain future together. He expressed his gratitude once again and invoked God’s blessings upon the people of Edo State and Nigeria as a whole.
The message comes in the wake of a hotly contested governorship election in Edo State, with allegations of irregularities and manipulation marring the process. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has since declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election, a result that the PDP and other opposition parties have vowed to challenge in court.
