Controversial social media critic, Martin Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has responded to a defamation allegation by renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria Femi Falana.
Deji Adeyanju, lawyer to Martin Otse, has denied any wrongdoing and called for an investigation into allegations made against Falana in a voice recording.
According to a letter dated September 25, 2024 from Adeyanju’s law firm, Deji Adeyanju & Partners, to Falana’s legal representatives, Otse published an Instagram post containing a voice recording of Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju (Bobrisky) making allegations against Falana. Adeyanju asserts the post was made with the intent of prompting relevant agencies and Falana himself to investigate the claims, not to defame Falana.
“Our client denies defaming Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, a renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria and globally recognised human rights activist,” the letter states. “Our client holds Mr. Femi Falana, SAN in very high esteem and recognises his commitment to the protection of human rights and rule of law in Nigeria.”
The letter goes on to say that Adeyanju believes “the appropriate line of action in the circumstance is an interagency investigation into the allegations contained in the voice recording, rather than pursuing a case of defamation.”
Falana, through his legal counsel, had demanded Otse retract the Instagram post. However, Adeyanju’s legal team points out that “some element of the voice recording has been confirmed by Mr. Folarin Falana in his solicitor’s letter of September 25, 2024.”

Recall that in a letter dated September 25, 2024, Falana’s legal counsel demanded an immediate retraction and apology from Otse for “incendiary publication and dissemination of defamatory statements” made on his Instagram account. The statements alleged that Falana spoke with Bobrisky to “divert justice” and accepted 10 million naira to arrange a presidential pardon for the celebrity.
Falana’s counsel stated, “We wish to state, without any fear of contradiction, that our client has never, in his life, spoken to Bobrisky on his alleged pardon or on any matter whatsoever.” The letter characterized Otse’s publication as “a vicious, wicked and reckless ploy to impugn the reputation of our client.” It demanded that Otse publish a retraction and apologyy.
