The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the arrest of controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, while attempting to cross the border into the Republic of Benin.
In a statement released on Monday, NIS Public Relations Officer Kenneth Udo said, “In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, Nigeria Immigration Service intercepted Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju, otherwise known as Bobrisky, at the Seme Border over an attempt to exit the country.”
Udo further revealed that Bobrisky is currently a person of interest to authorities over recent issues of public concern. “He is undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action,” the statement added.
The NIS assured the public that it will continue to carry out its statutory responsibilities of manning the country’s borders in a civil and professional manner.
Bobrisky, who is known for his flamboyant lifestyle and controversial personality, has been in the public eye for several years. The reasons behind his attempted exit from Nigeria and subsequent arrest remain unclear at this time.
