Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has announced that measures are being taken to improve the welfare of minors detained following their alleged participation in the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest.
On Friday, a federal high court in Abuja witnessed chaos when several minors collapsed while awaiting arraignment.
They were later granted bail at N10 million each, with the prosecution requesting the removal of the names of those who collapsed from the charges.
In a statement, Olawande assured the public that the Ministry of Youth Development is actively coordinating with the Ministry of Interior to investigate the situation and ensure the well-being of the young detainees.
He emphasized that the Ministry’s focus extends beyond this case, aiming to enhance conditions for youth in custodial centers nationwide.
“Please rest assured of the Ministry’s commitment to safeguarding youth interests and the welfare of young Nigerians, wherever they may be,” Olawande stated.
