An Area Court sitting at Centre-Igboro in Ilorin on Tuesday sentenced one Uthman Ajetunmobi of the city’s Alore Area to two years at the Borstal Training Institute for unruly behaviour.
While ruling, the Presiding Judge, Toyin Aluko, said this was necessary as the defendant’s mother had prayed the court to commit her son to the institute to change his bad behaviour.
Aluko therefore ruled that the man should spend two years at the institute to enable him learn any skill of his choice and further his education within the period.
Earlier, Mr. Ishola Dare of Borstal Training Institute, had told the court that the parent of Ajetunmobi approached the institute to complain about their child’s unruly behaviour.
Dare said the parent reported that the child associates with a group of bad boys and smokes hemp, adding that all efforts to change him failed.
He said that the parent wanted the institute to enroll him in a skill of his choice and also allow him continue with his education.
“This is in order for him to be useful for himself, family and society at large.
