The Court of Appeal, Owerri Division is set to hold a virtual sitting from Tuesday, December 3rd to Thursday, December 5th, 2024 in an effort to decongest pending cases. This initiative, which is the first of its kind in Owerri, was directed by the Honourable Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Owerri Division.
The virtual sitting will focus on Moribon Appeals and Motions, with preference given to old and pending matters dating back to 2010.
Hearing notices are currently being served to all concerned parties via GSM, email, or any address they have provided.
On Tuesday, December 3rd, the court will hear a mix of criminal and civil appeals, as well as motions. Notable cases include Alphonsus Aririukwu vs The State, a criminal appeal, and several civil appeals such as Grace O. Kalu vs Abia State Polytechnic and Pastor Goddy Kanu vs Hon. Ibeku Ugochukwu & 2 Ors.
The cause list for Wednesday, December 4th also features a blend of criminal and civil appeals, with cases like The State vs Maxwell Amadi and Chief Hart O. Adighimadu & 4 Ors. vs H.R.H Eze Stephen Ihuoma & 9 Ors.
On the final day of the virtual sitting, Thursday, December 5th, the court will address more civil appeals and motions. Some of the cases to be heard include Standard Alliance Insurance vs Chief Emma C. Adiele & 11 Ors., a civil appeal, and First Bank of Nigeria Plc. vs Dr Stephen T. Okoronkwo & Anor., a motion for a stay of execution.
