Enugu State Governor, Barr. Peter Mbah, has presented a proposed budget of ₦971.8 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, a significant increase from the ₦521.6 billion budgeted for 2024.
During the budget presentation at the Enugu State House of Assembly on Tuesday, Mbah stated that the new budget, titled “Budget of Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity,” aims to ensure development reaches every part of the state.
The governor expressed confidence in achieving the state’s vision for economic growth, particularly through the expansion of the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“Our vision to grow our GDP is patently achievable. No citizen of this state needs to suffer poverty or penury. No segment of the state will be left out,” he said.
Breakdown of the Budget, Capital Expenditure: ₦837.94 billion, Recurrent Expenditure: ₦133.14 billion, and Recurrent Capital Expenditure: ₦559.39 billion.
The governor announced an expected revenue of ₦692.17 billion, to be sourced from: Value Added Tax (VAT): ₦74.92 billion, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR): ₦144.8 billion, Grants and other sources.
Governor Mbah emphasized the administration’s focus on education, describing it as the foundation of development. The education sector is set to receive ₦320.61 billion, a substantial allocation.
For roads and infrastructure, over ₦213.12 billion was earmarked to enhance connectivity and improve public amenities across the state.
In a move to boost connectivity and economic activity, Governor Mbah announced plans to launch an Enugu State Airline within weeks.
“Enugu Airline will be launched in a few weeks so that our brothers coming for Christmas will fly with our own airline,” he said.
This initiative aims to ease travel for residents and visitors, particularly during the festive season.
The budget reflects Governor Mbah’s commitment to driving exponential growth and ensuring inclusive prosperity for all citizens of Enugu State.
