Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are currently questioning Nigeria’s immediate past Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, over her alleged involvement in the misappropriation, violation of procurement processes, and diversion of public funds amounting to N138,413,253.89.
The funds were reportedly misused during the disbursement of the 2023 budgeted funds for the Ministry of Women Affairs when she held office.
Sources close to the EFCC revealed to our correspondent that Ohanenye arrived at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja at approximately 11:00 AM on Thursday. As of the time of this report, she was still undergoing interrogation regarding her alleged role in the financial misconduct.
Investigations by the EFCC have indicated that donations made for the funding of the P-BAT Cares for Women Initiative were allegedly diverted for Ohanenye’s personal gain. Multiple sources have confirmed that the ongoing interrogations are focused on uncovering the extent of her involvement in the fraud.
At this time, Ohanenye has not been granted administrative bail, and the investigation is still ongoing.
