Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has issued a strong warning against loud preaching in public areas, particularly in markets, citing concerns over noise pollution and disturbance to residents.
In a viral video on X on Saturday, Soludo was captured confronting an unidentified roadside preacher in a market, instructing him to cease his loud preaching.
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) made it clear that violators of the state’s noise pollution regulations would face a fine of N500,000.
He further emphasised that preachers should conduct their services within a church or rent an open space.
He said, “If you want to preach the word of God, you go to your church. You are causing pollution. You cannot come to a marketplace and begin to disturb everybody here.
“If you want to preach the word of God, you go to church. The person who wants to come to your church will come to your church. But you don’t force everybody. In a marketplace, people have come to trade. It is not a church. So you don’t do that.

“They would have arrested you for disobeying the law. You don’t come out and take a space and start preaching. It is noisy. You are polluting the place. It is illegal. Everybody has freedom of worship. If you want to worship, we protect everybody, but you don’t go to the middle of the market where people are coming to trade and turn it into a church. Otherwise, we will charge you; they will be charging you for this space. You will pay N500,000 because we cannot allow this.”
