The Edo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Samson Osagie, has been recalled from suspension by Governor Monday Okpebholo.
The recall was confirmed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., and addressed to Dr. Osagie. The letter stated that the investigative panel set up to examine allegations of financial infractions against him had exonerated him, leading to his reinstatement.
The letter, dated March 12, 2025, reads in part:
“Having considered the report of the Investigative Panel set up by the Government to investigate allegations of financial infractions reported against you, which has exonerated you from the said allegations, I write to convey the directive of the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, that you resume duties as the State Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice with effect from March 12, 2025.”
Dr. Osagie’s suspension had sparked significant debate within Edo State’s political and legal circles, with some stakeholders calling for a fair and transparent review of the allegations.
