Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has called on the Nigerian government to order the immediate release of Chukwu Sunday Obasi, who has been in detention since March 2021.
Ejimakor, in a post on X, decried what he described as the continued persecution of Igbos perceived to be advocating for justice. He urged the government to direct security agencies to stop such actions and respect the rights of detainees.
“CHUKWU SUNDAY OBASI has been detained by DSS since March 2021 without trial. Efforts by lawyers have proved futile.
“The Federal Government should direct its security agencies to halt this persecution of Igbos who are perceived to be fighting for justice for Ndigbo. Free him, now,” Ejimakor wrote.
The prolonged detention of Obasi has raised concerns about human rights violations and due process, with activists calling for his release or proper legal proceedings in accordance with the law.
