The immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honorable Justice Oluwakayode Ariwoola, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Nigeria’s highest legal regulatory body.
Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olorogun Albert Akpomudje, SAN, was also named as the Vice Chairman.
Their appointments mark a new leadership era following the tenure of Asiwaju A.S. Awomolo, SAN, who recently completed his term as the 52nd Chairman of the Body of Benchers.
The Body of Benchers plays a pivotal role in regulating legal education and the professional conduct of lawyers in Nigeria. Justice Ariwoola’s emergence as chairman is expected to bring judicial expertise and administrative experience to the body, while Akpomudje’s appointment as vice chairman further strengthens the leadership.
Legal practitioners and stakeholders anticipate that the new leadership will continue efforts to uphold the rule of law, enhance legal education, and maintain the highest professional standards within the legal profession.
